OILS
BEFORE USING OILS TEST FOR ANY ALLERGENS! You can apply a small amount of oil behind the ear or on the inside of the wrist and wait 12-24 hours for any allergic reactions.
How I use oils on my scalp
- Apply the oil before showering (don’t over do it)
- Use a silicon massager to help stimulate the scalp for at least a few minutes
- Let the oil sit for at least 30 mins to a few hours (I personally don’t go over 3 hours)
- When shampooing ensure to wash all the oil off the scalp, shampoo 2- 3 times (only wash a 3rd time if you feel put a lot of oil and your don’t think you got it all out)
- Repeat every 1-2 weeks or once a month

Scalp Issues and Solutions: Washing
Washing the scalp!!
Shampooing isn’t about washing the hair, its about washing and nourishing the scalp.
—It’s important for hair growth
—Reduced washes can lead to yeast increase
So how often should you wash, the different traits
- Oily scalp- Wash more often
- Producing access sebum can cause a buildup in the pores reducing hair growth and increase yeast growth
- Dry scalp- Wash less often
- Not having enough natural oils moisturizing the scalp can lead to itchy skin and lead the hair being dry/brittle
- Activity level- Wash more often
- Sweat and sebum(oil) can cause buildup and slow down hair growth
- Aging- Wash less
- As you age you can produce less oil which naturally moisturizes the scalp
- Hair type and texture- Wash less often
- Curlier hair tends to be drier
- Color treated hair- wash less often
- Washing less will keep the color from fading too fast, depending on how your scalp is its okay to wash more often
- Color can lead to dryness
Disclaimer you may have curly hair and an oily scalp or as you age you have an oilier scalp, that’s okay adjust your wash to what works for you and makes your scalp healthy and happy.
So how often is too often
—It’s best suited for those with oily scalps
~Reduced washes with an oily scalp can lead to buildup, irritation, and slow hair growth
~People with oily scalps can wash daily if needed
—Those who are on the drier end, washing every day, can lead to more dryness and a little bit of breakage
Finding a sweet spot might be a little difficult but just take it one wash at a time
Protecting the hair and keeping it healthy and strong
So you may have thought to yourself my hair isn’t growing or even noticed you have what I like to call a natural layer (aka the ugly term.. breakage).
Good ways to keep your hair healthy and strong is by:
- Using a silk pillow case
- Tossing and turning on a rough pillow case can pull and break the hair
- Not sleeping with wet hair or tying wet hair in a tight pony
- Your hair is at its most fragile when wet
- Hair stretches up to 50% when wet and if dried while stretch can cause some damage
- Not wearing a tight pony everyday or tight style in general
- Not overly brushing
- It’s good to brush but not a crazy amount everyday
- Conditioning those ends
- Dryness to the hair can cause the hair to be brittle and break
- Letting the hair breath
- I understand if you are someone that throws their hair up any chance they can but sometimes its good to let it all down once in awhile
If you are someone that has some natural layering already and looking to repair it, it may take some time but you can always try..
- Getting a good cut
- Say goodbye for a short bit and start fresh, but keep her healthy!
- Wear protective styles
- loose braids
- low loose pony
- Conditioning treatments for the ends
- Oils
- Oil the scalp for some stimulation and get that hair growing back
- Oil the ends to seal those split ends and keep them from getting worse
